Player Overload

Adobe today launched its new Video Player. I've had a play and, at first sight, there seems little about it that isn't available on loads of other Flash players. Using Adobe Air, it is able to run as an application without requiring a web browser, but so can the likes of Joost and Babblegum. It allows viewers to aggregate content like Democracy (now Miro), and features content that competes with Brightcove and many others. Video quality is dire. Download times are slow.

Another unnecessary addition to a crowded marketplace that seems to take Adobe in an MSN like direction. I wonder why ?
