Skewed Planet

The BBC's acquisition of Lonely Planet is another indication of how skewed the UK TV landscape is. OK, the acquisition is by BBC Worldwide, the erstwhile commercial arm of the organisation, but it remains difficult to justify until this division operates as an independently controlled entity.

The UK has some of the most successful PBS channels in the world (even if most Brits don't even know that Channel 4 is theoretically a PBS), but this is simply because the market is horribly skewed in their favour.

So, it's high time that the Beeb and C4 acted like they behave and became publicly held companies.
