Something very unique is happening to newspapers in the UK - they're finding that they can only sell copies and avert an ever increasing decline in circulation if they bundle a free DVD (of whatever dubious quality). The thought process for the reader is simple:
Newspapers - redundant but cheap
DVDs - expensive
Newspapers + DVD = cheap video content, and a newspaper thrown in !
It has certainly given a new lease of life to some very average back catalogues, ranging from Mr Ben to Catherine Cookson TV specials.
Videos being used to sell print surely has some lessons for the internet TV industry... The basic one being that the moving image is more valuable than the written word.
