Dirty Laundry

I've just checked the most popular video sites on the web again and the list is much changed since my previous post last September (overall position on the web is in brackets):

1. YouTube (2)
2. Dailymotion (29)
3. Megavideo.com (40)
4. Redtube (adult - 62)
5. Veoh (77)
6. Stage6 (119 – now shut down)
7. Xtube (adult – 186)
8. Metacafe (187)
9. Torrentz (191)
10. Pornotube (adult – 214)
11. Tu TV (Spanish – 267)
12. Xvideos (adult – 278)
13. AlloCine (French – 283)
14. Freevideo.cz (adult – 307)
15. Tinypic (314)
16. AEBN (adult – 334)

What's most interesting is how adult sites are beginning to dominate the list - it was inevitable, I suppose. Veoh seems to be continuing its phenomenal growth, but services such as Heavy.com (1,675th), Revver (3,861st), Blinkx (4,447th) are still failing to make any real impact.

Even worse still are the perfomances of the specialist portals - NBC/NewsCorpHulu is at 6,561st, but AOL's Truveo is making headway with a rise to 1,309th.

In the US, the lastest ComScore research has the following placings:

1. Google sites 3.3b videos (32.6%)
2. Fox Interactive 358m (3.5%)
3. Yahoo! Sites 340m (3.4%)
4. Viacom Digital 238m (2.3%)
5. Microsoft Sites 180m (1.8%)
6. Time Warner Network 174m (1.7%)
7. Disney Online 123m (1.2%)
8. ESPN 84m (0.8%)
9. Apple 50m (0.5%)
10. ABC.com 47m (0.5%)
