Very little has been written or documented about the most serious problem facing internet TV - and the internet itself. Power.
The internet is running out of juice. Even the biggest players are having to downgrade their infrastructures to cope and in the most popular colos you now have to join a waiting list, not due to a lack of bandwidth capacity, but due to the lack of power provision.
The problem with powering large scale IT infrastructures is that they generate huge amounts of heat. To my knowledge no colo facility has been intelligent enough to recycle this heat. Rather, they use even more electricity in the form of industrial aircon to cool the facilities.
Predictions that bandwidth will keep on falling in price may well be stymied by this situation.
