All major events now have to come with a broadband package and UEFA has just announced that this summer's European Championships will have a live and highlights package available for £19.95.

The only major event holding out is the Olympics, which has been notoriously bad at dealing with new technologies, so London 2012 will be the first chance to see the games online in any meaningful way. With dozens of sports happening at once, nothing lends itself better to narrowcasting, so it'll be intersting to see what some of the domestic broadcasters will do with the technology - and viewership - now available. But this does cause its own issues, some sports, for example sailing, aren't even covered in full, so there may be a lack of pictures to transmit in the first place.
