Poisoned Chalice

Michael Grade must be the most relieved man in television this morning. He has finally decide to drop the poison chalice that is the CEO role at ITV even though he remains Non-exec Chairman, much against prevailing best practice.

His tenure can only be called disastrous, from the ill managed acquisition of Friends Reunited to the total unviewable, technically incompetent disaster that is ITV.com, it was a difficult brief made worse by his having both top jobs and surrounding himself with a very poor management team with little vision.

I expect the company to be purchased long before the next  CEO is appointed, although it's difficult to imagine who might want a company in such terminal decline with Grade still calling the real shots.
