NewsCorp cleared to buy Sky

As predicted on this blog earlier this year NewsCorp's political clout has paid an excellent dividend via the decision of Jeremy Hunt to allow this without a referral to the competition commission. A bit of window dresing with Sky News is involved.

Vince Cable would have offered a different outcome and was neutralised.

Richard Desmond made a very good point when he highlighted the fact on the Jeff Randall show that the worry here is that so much of british media is now under the control of NewsCorp (and with Murdoch Snr getting no younger) and yet NewsCorp could be bought by anyone with the readies - Mr Desmond speculated Colonel Gaddafi - but that is a bit crazy by any standards.
