The Death Of The Newspaper

The news that the inimitable Ashley Highfield is to join a regional newspaper group as CEO after being the BBC's digital guru and then running MSN in the UK is the latest development for an industry in its death throws.

The News of the World is gone, many newspapers, such as The Guardian and The Time lose large amounts of money, and Twitter seems to be the port of first call for news for more and more people.

It is interesting that television has been affected by online, but commercially has probably benefitted due to its ability to build and retain audiences, whereas the newspaper industry has been decimated with services from RightsMove to Google to TripAdvisor eating their lunch.

Is there a way back ? I doubt it. Ashley, good luck....
