I'm just back from The Netherlands where I was speaking at a cross media event on the theme of 'The Broadcaster as Publisher'. I've long drawn a comparison between the developments in the publishing industry after the advent of desktop publishing and what is going to happen to the TV industry.
The structure of a publishing business also lends itself to internet TV where advertising sales, editorial and distribution are the core skills required for success.
Even the mixed revenue models of the publishing world - selling advertising whilst charging a subscription - can be carried over.
Publishing was the original long tail industry and now TV over IP is set to follow the same path.
