The Franchise Game

The BBC's reforms aimed at producing fewer, higher quality programming demonstrates how polemic content production has become and how little of it has any true ongoing value.

At one end are the franchises - CSI, Top Gear, Law + Order and Big Brother.

At the other end are the two minute grainy moments of fame on YouTube.

The production of exploitable ongoing archives is an expensive business.

This is perhaps the biggest challenge and opportunity in the internet TV market. Expect new business models for the production of content to evolve.
