The Short Tail

The IPTV World Forum was a somewhat muted show. It reminded me of the Streaming Media shows in the US three years ago. The only platitude to take from the experience is that the guys running the exhibitions and the magazines are making more money from this industry than anyone else at the moment.

Indeed, Video Forum, where I spoke a few weeks ago was a fast, large and vibrant show compared to IPTV's rather muted and somewhat incestuous feel.

Don't get me wrong, the more events, the more publications, the more blogs, the better, but as I've pointed out, there are a finite number of buyers for IPTV technology, whereas TV over IP is a long tail affair. It felt like the IPTV World was all there, aleady knew each other and had little business to do..
