Swiss On A Roll

Swisscom's acquisition of Fastweb is the another cross-border deal that is probably a precursor to a consolidation of telcos across Europe. Both companies offer IPTV - the much-delayed Microsoft TV-based Bluewin TV from Swisscom and Fastweb's highly successful IPTV offering that serves over a quarter of a million Italian homes and is amongst the three most successful IPTV rollouts in Europe.

Fastweb also have a very high ARPU (average revenue per user) for a telco.

I certainly don't think it's the only reason for the acquisition, but could Swisscom be tiring of waiting for Microsoft to get their platform to work ? Might they deploy Fastweb's instead ?

We'll just have to wait and see.
