US cablecos are often given bad press. They're regarded as the real dinosaurs of the TV world. But Comcast seem to be getting it right. Through their purchase of internet tv service provider theplatform they are going to drive the NBC NewsCorp JV often called NewTube.

This is an excellent example of a bit of lateral thinking driving a business model into a new realm.

So, Comcast are still providing the network and NBC and NewsCorp the channels.

Comcast have achieved market saturation under FCC rules and also used the acquisition of Adephia and their shareholding in Time Warner to cherrypick the best customers within the 25% of the cable industry they are allowed to own. So, internet tv seems to be the obvious place to go.
