Discovery

Up at my home in Wales again and even with Sky restored I found nothing to watch this evening (what did we do with three channels ?). I stumbled upon BBC3 (yes, those guys I always slag off), generally thought to be aimed at a youth market. I watched three great programmes in a row.

But it did get me thinking about a term we often use in online video - discovery.

With thousands, or tens of thousands of channels how do we stumble on content? The community aspect is going to be important, but this isn't the music industry. Video programmes have a different psyche and true video content is yet to find its place online in the midst of the user generated and short form clutter.

In the near future, there will be a small industry dedicated to solving this issue.
