Strange Moves

Microsoft's investment in US internet video company, Move Networks is an interesting and somewhat surprising development. Microsoft have gotten close to companies such as Skinkers (who operate the Livestation platform) in the past, but have always home grown in the internet video space.

Apart from supporting Silverlight, the only reason that I can figure out is that the failure of initiatives such as Windows Media Centre and Microsoft IPTV, which have been relative failures, has prompted a rethink on the company's internet TV strategy. theplatform, now part of Comcast, has been the long term technology provider of record to Microsoft, so it'll be interesting to see how this all pans out.
