Regular readers of this blog will know that I have huge regard for Setanta from their origins hawking expat sports in Irish bars in the US to their purchase of Premiership rights, their rise has been a rare example of David keeping up, if not quite slaying, Goliath.
But it seems that the company has fallen foul of the current economic climate and will lack the deep pocketed support that has kept it going to date.
The unfortunate consequence of the lack of liquidity in the market is that it is strengthening the already powerful content oligopolies and severely turning back the clock for those of us who had hoped to see the internet changing the content landscape.
Change will come, but at a much slower pace, I predict.
