Ideas have their time and place. Some years ago Bill Gates touted the tablet PC as the next big thing. Much as had previously happened to items such as the mouse and the GUI, many elements of Gates' predictions have now found their way into devices such as - ironically - the iPhone.
But it strikes me, on the back of my last posting, that there is a place for an 'always on' mobile entertainment device, somewhere between smartphones and netbooks ('smartbooks' anyone ?).
The requirements. Well, ebook reader, games player, app store, mobile connection, email, voip (old fashioned mobile calling...).
From conversations with those in the know it sounds that this is what the Android OS does best. Could we therefore see a generation of mobile set top boxes that are independent of screens and carried around from place to place ?
