China takes aim at Skype

The Chinese government have announced plans to curtail the activities of skype in order to protect the incumbent telco's. It may also be connected with the fact that Skype is far more difficult to monitor than regular email.

Refreshingly direct from the worlds's 2nd largest economy and this ads to the list of other sites that experience "challenges" in the Chinese environment.

Given that most would agree that the internet needs some level of policing (child pornography etc) this does raise a question for those who say it is immpossible to police the net...........it obviously is not.

The more difficult question is where to draw the line between free speeech / collective interest / property rights (copyright) but we can leave that in the capable hands of our elected leaders.................
