Google's acquisition of Next New Networks must force the regulatory authorities across the world to final take a look at their video business and treat them with the same regulatory framework as other content creators and broadcasters.
It is ironic how a company whose advertising is widely used to support pirated content, and who themselves have been culpable for destroying the sports narrowcast marketplace through flagrant disregard for rights holders and ongoing support for pirates is now itself gradually moving to centre stage.
The market for internet exclusive live sports events has been killed by Google, Justin, Ustream and other similar services by making it easy for pirates to distribute copyrighted content illegally, but Google are doubly culpable in also providing the adverts to support the pirate streams.
But of course, it suits their business model - until they launch pay-per-view and subscription services - let's see how keen they'll then be to support the pirates.
