Nothing prepared me better to be an entrepreneur than running a band in high school. Logistics, strategy, marketing, operations, you needed it all, and you didn't realise what you were doing.
Tonight I had a beer with the band- well, three guys who worked with me at my last company and now work for Rights Tracker, possibly the most exciting company I've ever been involved in. One of the guys plays in a great band (Starseed - check them out) and we got talking about how similar running a band and starting an online site is. Both demand an audience. In the new social world nothing else counts.
And the backing you get from record labels is just like VCs.
Forget going to school, pick up that guitar. It's the best training for entrepreneurs.
