Blue chip advertisers face compensation claims and brand damage for supporting pirate websites

KLipcorp IP today (via its Solicitors) issued notices to the "usual suspects" of major brands who support pirate activity. This list is driven by the SnifferDog software operated by KLipcorp IP on behalf of major rights holders and provides examples of previous support by the brands in question for pirate activity.

This notification follows advice from a leading Q.C. in the IP field and is issued on behalf of a major UK rights holder with an event over the summer.

There is a lot of "chat" in this area but this is the first concrete example of infringing advertisers being contacted in this way and being given an opportunity to alter the approach to online inventory purchase...........savings made in the short term on cut price ad space may well lead to massive compensation claims, legal bills and reputational damage.
